HIV North Society Changing Name To Better Represent Services

The HIV North Society is changing its name moving forward.

The organization will now be called North Reach in an attempt to better represent all their programs.

Area Director Danielle Hapta tells Mix News many people don’t know about all the services they provide.

“People basically would clump us in with simply HIV client care support where in fact we do much, much more than that. A lot of our main serices was HIV care and support but it’s evolved since then.”

Along with HIV education, North Reach offers naloxone training and distribution, diversity training, LGBTQ support, and more.

Hapta says changing their name should encourage more people to reach out.

“It will help people who are maybe a little bit afraid to access our services before with the name HIV because maybe they were afraid of the stigma or being judged.”

She adds their services will stay the same.

“Basically, it’s just going to better reflect what we offer and not just have the HIV title in there.”

Meanwhile, North Reach is encouraging people to take advantage of National Day of Testing on June 27 at the Centre of Hope and Keyano College.
