A shooting by an RCMP officer in Fort Chipewyan is under investigation.

On Thursday, around 11:55 p.m., a man was reportedly banging on the main entrance to the police’s detachment.

An off-duty officer witnessed the incident and tried to assist another member who had already responded.

During an altercation, one of the member’s firearm’s discharged hitting the man who was later sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Neither officer was injured.

Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is currently investigating the incident.
