Monarchs Struggle To Find Footing Versus Bucs, Fall To 1-4

The Fort McMurray Monarchs can’t seem to catch a break.

The Monarchs fell to the Central Alberta Buccaneers 34-27 over the weekend – to drop to 1-and-4 on the campaign.

Head Coach Kevin Garbuio tells Mix News the loss simply came down to a lack of execution.

“We just weren’t executing early on in the game,” Garbuio said. “We made the adjustments and that paid off. We were down with less than a minute to go and we tied it but unfortunately, they caught us in a play, and we did not close.”

The loss keeps Fort McMurray stagnant, stuck in fourth place in the AFL.

Despite their spot in the standings – Garbuio says the team is still in high spirits.

He adds the record is not entirely indicative of their play throughout the season.

“Unfortunately, the results have not been there. The last two games, we’ve played tight at the end. We played tight in the first game. So, in three of our losses, it’s not like we’ve been off the field or blown out, it’s been tight games where we’ve just made mistakes down the stretch.”

The Monarchs are back in action next week when they head to Cold Lake to take on the Fighter Jets.
