YMM Airport Ranked Third in Canada for On-Time Performance

The Fort McMurray International Airport is being ranked as one of Canada’s most punctual airports.

A survey conducted by OAG Aviation Group Ltd compared 505 airports across the world and determined their on-time performance.

President and CEO of the Airport Authority RJ Steenstra tells Mix News they strive to ensure their customers get to their destinations quickly and safely.

“It’s a coordination and a team effort from everybody to work together to ensure that baggage gets down the belt and on the aircraft and then the aircraft gets boarded on-time and out on the runaway and of course taking off.”

The YMM Airport sees around 508 flights a month, 117 weekly, and 17 daily. OAG notes 81 per cent of their flights left on-time.

Steenstra says this is a strong number to work off of.

“We want to continue to see that grow and on-time performance improve beyond that, but for now that’s certainly a strong number.”

The Grande Prairie Airport and the Kelowna International Airport were the only ones to score higher than Fort McMurray.

Out of the 20 Canadian airports ranked, four were from Alberta with the Calgary and Edmonton International Airports rounding out the list.

The top ten were also in Western Canada with four from British Columbia and two from Saskatchewan.

Overall, YMM ranked 153 across the world for its on-time performance.
