A Fort McMurray born hockey player is being banned from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League for one season.
The SJHL announced on Sunday they and the Yorkton Terriers were cutting ties with 19-year-old Greg Mulhall for the rest of the 2019/20 season after a video with profanity was posted on social media.
In the video, Mulhall targets Melville Millionaires goalie Berk Berkeliev who he recently received a 25 game suspension for after running into him.
He’s seen saying “f***ing right I ran the goalie, f***ing right. F**k Berk Berkeliev.”
Berkeliev suffered multiple injures and had to be transported to the hospital.
In a statement, the SJHL says the video was the final straw for the league.
“Due to a recent video that has surfaced with Greg Mulhall speaking with disrespect and profanity laced words towards Melville goalie Berk Berkeliev, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and the Yorkton Terriers are severing ties with Mulhall for the remainder of the 19-20 season.”
Mulhall went to social media shortly after his suspension apologizing for the video.
“I would like to start out by apologizing to Berk Berkeliev. What was said in the video was very uncalled for, and was something that shouldn’t have been said whatsoever. I want to apologize to the Melville Millionaires, the Yorkton Terriers, and the SJHL. I am not the type of person to say things like that, and especially what happened with the hit and the injuries that caused. I take full responsibilities for my actions.”
Mulhall will be eligible to sign with a team for the 2020/21 season.
