The region is seeing a big drop in jobs month-over-month.
According to Statistics Canada’s latest labour force survey, Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake lost around 1,200 jobs in September.
The construction sector saw the biggest decrease, losing around 800 jobs.
The forestry, fishing, mining, quarrying, oil and gas sector stayed the same with around 24,000 positions.
The Health care and social assistance sector had the biggest increase, adding around 200 spots.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate slightly went down from August – sitting at 6.2 per cent.
Provincially and federally, the unemployment rate stayed the same from last month – 7.2 per cent and 5.8 per cent respectively.
