The Keyano Huskies men’s volleyball team are back on the hunt to start 2020.
The Huskies are coming off a pair of victories this past weekend over Lakeland College – winning each match in four sets.
The wins improve the squad to 12-2 on the year, placing them 11th in Canada.
Despite the rankings, Head Coach Keegan Kuhr tells Mix News they’re not going to take anything for granted.
“We’re hungry for first place. We’ve got some games coming up against some of the lower end of the rankings but not going to take anything lightly because we just want to keep battling and see where we can finish here.”
Joao Cunha had 22 kills on Friday and followed that up with 17 on Saturday to increase his season total to 185 – which places him 5th in the ACAC.
Additionally, Cunha’s 4.3 kills per set place him 4th – while his .610 hitting percentage is the highest in the conference.
Now, Keyano shifts focus to Grande Prairie Regional College (4-12) – who sit 2nd to last in the North Division.
Kuhr says despite the differences in records they cannot take them lightly.
“Grande Prairie, though their record doesn’t show, they get a few guys back this semester and they’ve played very well this past couple of weeks. So, we’re going to have to be our best at home to continue our winning ways.”
The Huskies square off with Grande Prairie on Friday at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre – with game time at 8:00 p.m.
