The provincial government is giving the go-ahead to an oil project south of Fort McMurray.
The GoA announced on Wednesday that they were approving Suncor Energy’s Meadow Creek West project.
Suncor can now start the next stage of development which includes making investment decisions and applying for other environmental licenses and local area development permits.
“Enabling projects like Meadow Creek West demonstrates our commitment to encouraging investment and creating good-paying jobs in our province,” said Sonya Savage, Minister of Energy, in a release.
Meadow Creek West would create around 3,200 jobs during construction and another 200 through operations.
The site would produce around 40,000 barrels per day using steam-assisted gravity drainage.
