The season has come and gone for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
The MOB were beaten in six games in their playoff series to the Whitecourt Wolverines.
After trailing three-nothing in the series, the team was able to win back-to-back games before being eliminated at home on Monday.
Head Coach Gord Thibodeau tells Mix News he believes his team gave it everything they had.
“We gave ourselves an opportunity, not just to be in the series, but with a bounce here and there maybe we put ourselves in position to win the series.”
While the players will have some time to rest, the coaching staff is already thinking of next season.
Twenty-two players are eligible to return, however, not everyone will be an Oil Baron again.
“We know we have a lot of work to do in order to acquire more talent,” added Thibodeau. “What we’re going to do here for a couple of months is find the right mix of characters, talent, and skill.”
Thibodeau also believes the team will be able to compete next year.
“I’m planning on us being 60-0 and if we lose the first game then we’re gonna go 59-1 and that’s kind of the mindset you have to have. We want to compete right away.”
