Fort McMurray could see some rain in the next day or so.
Environment Canada is calling for a chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday, with more rain in the forecast for Friday.
Meteorologist Alysa Pederson says she anticipates about five millimeters of rain in some areas.
“At this time of year, it’s a pretty common thing to have relatively quick-moving systems bring showery weather,” Pederson said. “The actual total amount out of these showers is going to be very localized, but it’s going to be a pretty big area where the showers will land.”
Pederson says the little bit of rain expected will greatly help with the dry conditions.
“Rain is obviously better than snow,” Pederson said. “Snow is good, but the moisture content of that snow isn’t usually as good as if you get the same amount in rain, so this week, with what we’re getting here, any little bit is going to help.”
Fort McMurray will not need much in the rain gauge to beat a daily record. According to the Environment Canada website, the daily record was set back in 2005 with just half a millimeter of rain.
