The Wood Buffalo RCMP is introducing a new initiative to enhance public service.
The RCMP Call-Back Unit (CBU) is part of a six-month pilot project to help free up more frontline officers to work within the community. CBU members will handle non-urgent files such as property damage, theft under $5,000, mischief, fraud, and identity theft. If a report is made about something that doesn’t need an immediate response, the CBU steps in to investigate, ensuring each report is addressed within three business days. CBU members do not attend the scene of an incident.
Officers in the Detachment have said the CBU helps them spend more time in the community responding to urgent matters. CBU members can also fully discuss reported crimes and concerns with residents, as well as provide advice and information on how to prevent future incidents. The RCMP believes this will help reduce crime rates across the region.
