FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta —Travelers are advised to check the status of local highways before heading out.

Wildfires burning near Highway 63 and Highway 881 are rapidly changing conditions. Both highways closed at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, July 22, 2024. Highway 63 opened Tuesday morning just before 8:00 a.m.

Alberta 511 issued an alert for Highway 881 between Conklin and Janvier (KM 170 to KM 213), indicating it is closed due to wildfire activity.

Alberta Wildfire is actively fighting fires near both routes. More to come.
