The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are gearing up for more service calls, shifting demographics, and new technology.
Canada’s national police force has released a three-year strategic plan, titled “The Next Chapter, 2024-27.” The plan focuses on recruiting and retaining officers, promoting a healthy workplace culture, and ensuring continued operational excellence. A key initiative is the launch of the RCMP’s first dedicated First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Recruitment Strategy to address staffing needs.
The RCMP also aims to enhance the work of the National Cybercrime Coordination Centre by implementing the National Cybercrime Solution. This initiative will facilitate the secure exchange and analysis of cybercrime data and intelligence with law enforcement partners and introduce a new secure cybercrime portal for public reporting of cybercrime and fraud.
The RCMP reports that the demand for police services continues to grow, with approximately 3 million calls for service nationwide in the past year, a 2% increase from 2022.
