SMS Wine Auction Raises Over $135,000 for Youth Mentoring in Fort McMurray

FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta  — Big Brothers Big Sisters Wood Buffalo is calling the recent SMS Wine Auction as a major success, raising over $135,000 to support youth mentoring programs in the community.

Held at the Grand Ballroom at Shell Place, the annual fall event featured wine and scotch tastings, dueling pianos, and a curated selection of bottles for auction. Attendees had the opportunity to bid on the exclusive collection, with all proceeds going toward life-changing mentoring services for children and young adults in the region.

Larry Gouthro, general manager of title sponsor SMS Equipment, said the funds will directly contribute to the empowerment of youth in Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo. “This support helps provide meaningful guidance and mentorship that makes a real difference in the lives of young people,” Gouthro said.

Big Brothers Big Sisters also extended its thanks to several partners, including the Regional Recreation Corporation, Cass & Nat Event Planning, Cocktails by Boots, Outpost Wine and Tasting, Fort Mac Liquor, and Harvard Media, whose support helped make the event a memorable success.

The organization is already planning next year’s Wine Auction for Sept. 20, 2025, which will mark the 15th anniversary of the fall social staple.
