Fort McKay First Nation trapper is safely back home after being rescued by RCMP when his hunting trip took a dangerous turn.
On Sunday, the man was traveling to his cabin between Wandering River and Mariana Lake when his Argo ATV overturned and became stuck in muskeg. After calling for help, Boyle RCMP were notified and quickly determined that a police helicopter was the only way to reach him.
The RCMP helicopter located the man cold and wet but uninjured. He was flown to Lac La Biche Hospital, where he was assessed and released.
Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of the Alberta RCMP said the cold and wet conditions were a serious concern. “The quick coordination and execution of this rescue prevented the hunter from needing medical attention in a situation that could have ended differently,” said Savinkoff.
