Wood Buffalo Community Foundation Grants Support Mental Health and Addictions Recovery

The Wood Buffalo Community Foundation (WBCF) is handing out $294,000 in grants to five local charities. This year WBCF focused on mental health and addictions recovery in Fort McMurray. The recipients include the Pastew Detox Centre, who will invest in its pre-treatment program, and Some Other Solutions, which will use the funds for its Community Outreach Program.

Ping Zhang, Executive Director, Some Other Solutions said the funding will help strengthen the entire community of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

“This funding will have a profound impact on our Child and Youth Program, allowing us  to expand our outreach and provide essential services such as mental health support, mentorship, and cultural programming,” says Ping Zhang.

Other grant recipients are the Nistawoyou Association Friendship Centre for its Elder mentoring program, the Golden Years Society, which will use the funding to support its Program Director, and Fort McMurray Catholic Schools for its initiative,The Regulated Classroom.

The Foundation’s impact was increased this year is thanks to an anonymous donor who stepped up to support their efforts.

Grant applications were reviewed by a committee and subsequently recommended to the Board of Directors following a call for applications earlier this year.
