Millions Pledged for Jasper’s Tourism Recovery
Hoping to help revive Jasper’s tourism industry following this summer’s devastating wildfire, the Alberta government is pledging $2.5 million to boost tourism and help operators ready for the fall and winter seasons. Travel Alberta, the province’s destination management corporation, is providing the funding. The crown corporation hopes to help businesses expand their offerings and attract visitors back to the fire-ravaged national park.
Jon Mamela, Chief Commercial Officer of Travel Alberta, says this fall and winter travel season will be critical to the long-term success of Jasper’s recovery.
“This investment will help Jasper tourism operators expand their offerings while inviting travellers to come make new memories in this special place, supporting the community as it rebuilds,” says Mamela.
Tyler Riopel, CEO of Tourism Jasper agrees. “A strong and thriving visitor economy is essential for our residents to rebuild swiftly and continue welcoming visitors to Jasper.” Says Riopel. “These funds will provide direct support to our tourism operators and help reinforce the message that Jasper is open for business this fall and into the winter season.”
The Government of Canada is also stepping up to help bring visitors to the park. Last week, Soraya Martinez Ferrada, the federal tourism minister, announced $3 million for tourism advertising across the globe to attract visitors back to Jasper.
