After heavy snowfall hit much of the province, the RCMP is reminding drivers to stay safe on the roads. Even though a warm-up is on the way, they’re taking the opportunity to share important safety tips early.

They advise drivers to plan for extra travel time, keep an emergency kit in the car, and leave plenty of space between vehicles. These tips might seem obvious for us Albertans who live in snow for half the year, but some drivers still forget the basics.

Every year, like clockwork, someone speeds through the first snowstorm and ends up in a ridiculous accident. You know the one—where a truck somehow lands on top of another car in the Timmies parking lot in Thickwood, and the whole scene is all over Facebook within minutes. It happens every year!
