Suspect Arrested After Four-Day Manhunt in Northern Alberta

Manhunt in Lac La Biche Area Ends with Arrest of Armed Suspect

LAC LA BICHE, Alberta — A four-day manhunt in the Lac La Biche area ended Sunday with the arrest of Peter Hamelin near Beaver Lake, Alberta.

The search for Hamelin began on Thursday after the Heart Lake First Nation was forced to shelter in place as police responded to an incident. RCMP attempted to arrest Hamelin, but he fled. Police believed he was in possession of a firearm when he fled prompting them to warn the public not to approach the armed and dangerous man.

On Saturday, RCMP received information that Hamelin was in the Plamondon area, driving a stolen yellow truck. By Sunday morning, officers located him in Beaver Lake in a stolen red truck and used a spiked belt to stop the vehicle. Hamelin was arrested without further incident and is in custody pending a judicial hearing.
