Possible Abduction in Abasand Prompts Wood Buffalo RCMP Investigation

Fort McMurray – On the evening of Nov. 6, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to an incident near Athabasca Avenue in Fort McMurray’s Abasand neighborhood. Around 7:20 p.m., officers were alerted to a possible abduction after a witness reported seeing a young woman escaping from a black Jeep only to be pursued and forcibly taken back into the vehicle.

According to the report, the witness saw the unknown female jump from the vehicle around 7:00 p.m. and flee toward the field behind the Abasand Esso and Father Beauregard School. The Jeep, which had initially been stationary, then drove onto the field, where one or two occupants exited, grabbed the fleeing female, and brought her back into the vehicle before quickly driving away in a northbound direction.

The driver of the black Jeep is described as a Caucasian male with silver, scruffy hair. A second occupant, possibly female, was reportedly wearing a grey sweater.

Wood Buffalo RCMP and Police Dog Services responded swiftly to the scene but were unable to locate the suspicious vehicle or its occupants. Surveillance footage of the vehicle has been obtained, and RCMP are asking area residents to check their home security cameras for any footage that could help with the investigation.

Anyone with information related to the incident or vehicle is urged to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at (780) 788‐4040.
