Canada’s Violent Crime Rate Surpasses the U.S.: Fraser Institute Study

Violent Crime Rates in Canada Surpass Those in the United States

Canada’s rate of violent crime now exceeds that of the United States, according to a recent analysis by The Fraser Institute. The report shows Canada recorded 434.11 violent crimes per 100,000 people, compared to 380.07 per 100,000 in the U.S. The findings mark a significant shift, as violent crime rates in Canada have climbed 44 percent since 2014, and shatters the commonly held belief that Canada has less violence than the USA.

The study also highlights troubling trends in property crime, with Canada reporting nearly 2,491.0 property crimes per 100,000 people, compared to 1954.4 in the U.S. Despite these figures, homicide rates in Canada remain significantly lower than those in the United States.

The data has caught the eye of the Conservative Party of Canada who are criticizing the Trudeau government’s approach to crime. The Conservatives have vowed to reform Canada’s bail system if they win a majority in the next election.
