Santa Claus Parade and Starry Night Celebration Set for Saturday
FORT MCMURRAY — The holiday season kicks off this weekend with the annual Santa Claus Parade and Starry Night celebration hosted by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).
Festivities begin Saturday, December 7, at 5 p.m. with Council’s Starry Night party at kiyām Community Park. The event will feature Indigenous drummers, carolers, and a tipi and tree lighting ceremony to set the festive tone.
The Santa Claus Parade follows at 6 p.m., starting at the corner of Main Street and Franklin Avenue. The parade will proceed along Franklin Avenue, ending at the corner of Riedel Street and Clearwater Drive.
For those seeking a quieter experience, Main Street will serve as a sensory-friendly zone from 5:45 to 6:00 p.m. Floats and walking groups will turn off their music and sirens during this time to create a calmer environment.
This year’s parade adds a competitive twist, allowing attendees to vote for their favourite floats online after the event. The winning floats will each receive a $1,000 prize.
Residents are encouraged to come downtown early to enjoy the full range of festivities and celebrate the season.
