Gibbons man facing child pornography charges after months-long investigation

A 23-year-old man from Gibbons is facing charges related to child pornography following a ten-month investigation by RCMP and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team’s (ALERT) Integrated Child Exploitation Unit.

Riley Hillier was arrested after Morinville RCMP executed a search warrant at his home late last month. Police say electronic devices containing child pornography were seized during the search. Hillier has been charged with possession of and accessing child pornography, as well as one count of improper firearm storage.

The investigation began last spring when ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit flagged the Gibbons residence for allegedly accessing child pornography. Investigators required multiple judicial authorizations before securing a warrant to search the property.

Hillier’s first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.

Gibbons is located just north of Edmonton along Highway 28.
