Tupper Family Light Show Kicks Off Ninth Year to Support Local HERO Foundation
FORT MCMURRAY — A beloved holiday tradition is returning to Fort McMurray, bringing festive cheer and supporting a vital cause. The Tupper Family Light Show will launch its ninth season on Friday, December 6, at 7:30 p.m. at Fort City Church, across from Kicking Horse in Thickwood.
Recently recognized by the North America Holiday Atlas, and named by Road Trip Alberta as one of the province’s standout displays, the Tupper Family Light Show features 12,000 animated digital lights synchronized to music. The dazzling display will raise funds for the Local HERO Foundation, the region’s only Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). HERO 1 responds to emergencies across Fort McMurray, rural communities, and remote worksites, providing critical care when it’s needed most.
“Every donation helps HERO continue its mission of saving lives by saving time,” said Lorna Ash, Executive Director of the Local HERO Foundation.
Opening Night Festivities
The launch event promises family-friendly fun, with hot chocolate, a fly-by from the HERO 1 helicopter, and a magical countdown with Santa to light up the show. Visitors can enjoy the display from the comfort of their vehicles, tuning in to hear the choreographed music. This year’s show includes a special feature—a song written and performed by local award-winning Gospel artist Katie Williams.
The Tupper Family Light Show will run nightly from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with shows beginning every half hour, through January 1, 2025. While the event is free, visitors are encouraged to “pay it forward” by donating to the Local HERO Foundation.
Over the past nine years, the Tupper Family Light Show has raised thousands of dollars for local charities, becoming a cherished holiday tradition in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region.
