Canadians Divided Over Federal Oil and Gas Emissions Cap: Poll
A new Abacus Research poll reveals Canadians are deeply divided over the federal government’s proposed oil and gas emissions cap, with many unaware of the controversial policy.
Half of respondents said they had no knowledge of the legislation, considered to be one of the Liberal government’s flagship climate initiatives. Among those familiar with it, opinions were nearly evenly split: 32 per cent supported the cap, 32 per cent opposed it, and 33 per cent expressed mixed feelings.
Quebec showed the strongest support for the cap at 44 per cent, while opposition was highest in Alberta where the provincial government is preparing to challenge the cap in court. Even among committed Liberal voters, only 53 per cent fully backed the policy, with a significant portion expressing ambivalence.
