Alberta Invests in Wood Buffalo Economic Development to Support Local Businesses

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — The Alberta government is investing nearly $100,000 in Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism’s (WBEDT) Business Connection program with the goal of fostering innovation in our region and supporting local businesses.

The money comes from Alberta’s Northern and Regional Economic Development program, and it is expected to assist more than 100 small and medium-sized enterprises with services such as workforce recruitment and retention, customer service, marketing, financial management, and operational efficiency.

“Supporting small businesses in northern Alberta is key to unlocking the region’s full potential,” said Tany Yao, MLA for Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.  “The Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Business Connections Program is helping local entrepreneurs grow, create jobs and strengthen our communities for the future.”

Melonie Doucette, Director with Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism said the program not only builds stronger businesses, but it also builds a stronger community. “”The Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Business Connections Program is a critical part of our efforts to help small businesses thrive and adapt to changing market conditions,” said Doucette.

The initiative is forecast to create 25 full-time and 17 part-time jobs in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region.
