Winter Roads to Fort Chipewyan and La Loche on Track
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) says construction on the winter road to Fort Chipewyan is progressing smoothly and is expected to open before Christmas. Crews report steady progress on the crucial seasonal link, with no detours or route changes planned this year.
Last year, unusually warm weather delayed the road’s opening, prompting the RMWB to offer limited flights to transport passengers and freight. However, this year’s cooler conditions have allowed construction to stay on schedule, ensuring residents of Fort Chipewyan will have a southern road connection ready in time for the holidays.
The eastern winter road connecting Fort McMurray to La Loche, Saskatchewan, is also moving forward without delays or concerns, according to the Municipality. Further updates on the progress of both routes are expected later this week.
