RMWB Relaxes Winter Maintenance Zones Over Holidays

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — Residents in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) won’t need to worry about moving their vehicles for residential snow clearing this holiday season. The municipality has announced a relaxation of all Winter Maintenance Zones from December 23 until January 3.

Despite the relaxed zones, municipal crews will continue clearing snow on primary, secondary, and tertiary streets. The RMWB says it will take advantage of the reduced traffic during the school break to focus on removing snow from school zones and other less-travelled areas.

Temporary no-parking signs will be posted 24 hours in advance in locations scheduled for plowing and clearing. After that, on-street parking restrictions will come into effect, and vehicles must be removed until the signs are taken down.

The municipality reminds residents to stay alert for signage and allow space for crews to safely complete their work.
