FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is gearing up for the 2025 municipal election. Candidate nominations are now open for the positions of mayor, councillor, and school board trustee.

The election will be held on October 20, 2025, the fixed date for municipal elections across Alberta. This year, the province has new rules in the Local Authorities Elections Act requiring prospective candidates to file a Notice of Intent before they can accept any campaign donations or incur expenses. Candidates must also complete the nomination process, submitting all required forms and documentation, by noon on Monday, September 22, 2025.
