New Year’s Fire Destroys Fort McMurray Townhouse
FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — A townhouse near the Syncrude Athletic Park in Fort McMurray was destroyed in a fire that broke out shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day.
Regional Emergency Services received multiple calls reporting a blaze at a townhouse complex on O’Coffey Crescent in the Timberlea subdivision. When firefighters arrived, they found the garage of the home fully engulfed in flames.
Crews initially attempted to fight the fire from inside but were forced to adopt defensive tactics to prevent the blaze from spreading to neighbouring structures.
Four pumper trucks, an aerial ladder truck, fire investigators, and other emergency personnel worked through the early hours, bringing the fire under control by 3 a.m.
No injuries were reported, but the townhouse was completely destroyed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
