Fire Damages Keyano College Residences, No Injuries Reported

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — Regional Emergency Services (RES) responded to an early morning fire at Keyano College’s Reidel residences on Friday, January 3.

Crews were dispatched to the complex, located near Franklin and Manning Avenue, around 1:30 a.m. Three pumper trucks, an aerial ladder unit, firefighters, and paramedics arrived to find a blaze on the second floor of one of the residential units.

Firefighters entered the building and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to nearby units. Crews remained on-site until shortly after 5 a.m. to ensure the area was safe.

While no injuries were reported, the affected unit sustained significant damage. An adjacent residence also suffered smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
