Skiers Rescued After Chair Lift Malfunction at Vista Ridge

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — Skiers at Vista Ridge are safely back on the ground after a mechanical failure on the Wilson Chair Lift left several passengers stranded mid-air on Saturday.

Staff at the popular ski hill attempted to repair the lift but were unable to resolve the issue. Regional Emergency Services (RES) was called in, and firefighters conducted a rope-rescue operation to evacuate the skiers. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Vista Ridge has extended its thanks to RES for their swift response. The ski hill is now working with the manufacturer of the lift system to identify and repair the problem. While the Wilson Chair Lift remains closed, the Bison Chair, bunny carpets, and tubing run are still open to visitors.
