Freedom Convoy Leader Pat King Sentenced to House Arrest, Community Service

OTTAWA — Controversial Freedom Convoy leader Pat King has been sentenced to three months of house arrest, 100 hours of community service, and one year of probation for his role in the 2022 protests that gridlocked downtown Ottawa. The sentence, handed down by Justice Charles Hackland, comes in addition to the nine months King spent in pre-trial custody.

King was found guilty of five charges related to the so-called Freedom Convoy, which paralyzed the city’s core and subjected residents to weeks of noise and disruptions. The Crown had sought a 10-year sentence, but Justice Hackland rejected the request, stating it would effectively turn King into a “political prisoner.”

While King’s criminal case is now resolved, he still faces civil lawsuits for his involvement in the protests.
