Wood Buffalo RCMP Investigate Armed Robbery, Seek Public Assistance
Fort McMurray, Alta. – Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Prime Hotel Laundromat in downtown Fort McMurray on Saturday, February 22, 2025. At approximately 2:13 p.m., police responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting the incident at 10131 Franklin Avenue.
According to witnesses, a Caucasian male entered the laundromat wearing sunglasses, a balaclava, red gloves, a high-visibility vest, a black hooded sweater, blue jeans, and black shoes. The suspect pointed a handgun at an employee and demanded cash. The employee managed to flee into the hotel to call for help. The suspect then stole a box containing an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene. The employee was not physically injured.
Police, including Wood Buffalo RCMP Police Dog Services, contained the area but were unable to locate the suspect. Surveillance footage revealed the suspect fled on foot into a back alley behind the Morrison Centre and was last seen near the NorthView Apartments before disappearing from view.
“Wood Buffalo RCMP, with assistance from Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate,” stated the RCMP in a release. Police are urging area residents and businesses with surveillance cameras to review their footage for any additional information that may help identify the suspect.
The suspect is described as a Caucasian male wearing sunglasses, a balaclava, red gloves, a high-visibility vest, a black hooded sweater, blue jeans, and black shoes. Images of the suspect have not yet been released.
