Trouble Brewing For Suspect in Downtown Taphouse Break-in

Police arrest suspect after break-in at Fort McMurray taphouse

FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — A Fort McMurray man is in custody after police say he broke into a downtown brewery and made off with bottles of booze.

Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to an alarm at Drum Brewing Sunday around 7:45 a.m. and found the business had been broken into. Investigators say the suspect entered through an unlocked door and stole multiple bottles of alcohol before fleeing.

Officers, along with the police dog unit, searched the area but were unable to find the alleged thief. However, surveillance footage from the taphouse helped Mounties identify a suspect.

On Monday evening, officers with the RCMP’s municipal traffic unit spotted a man matching the images from the video and arrested him without incident.

Shawn Cree, 45, of Fort McMurray is charged with break-and-enter, theft, and possession of a controlled substance. He was denied bail and remains in custody ahead of a court appearance on March 17.

Police did not specify what type of liquor was taken, but say the investigation remains ongoing.
