Cybertruck Recall: Tesla Shares Drop, so do the Body Panels

Tesla recalls nearly all Cybertrucks as body panels risk falling off

Tesla’s Cybertruck is quite literally falling apart, and now the company is scrambling to put it back together. The EV maker is recalling nearly all of its futuristic-looking pickups—more than 46,000 in total—after discovering that exterior panels can detach while driving, creating a potential road hazard.

The problem? The stainless-steel trim was held in place by an adhesive that turned out to be less than reliable. Tesla now plans to reinforce the panels with a welded stud and clamping nut after receiving 151 warranty claims related to the issue. No injuries or crashes have been reported, though owners may have noticed an unsettling rattling noise before pieces started flying off.

The recall is the latest in a string of headaches for Tesla, which has seen its stock price nosedive by nearly 50 per cent this year. The Cybertruck itself has already faced complaints about performance issues, cold weather struggles, and lackluster sales, adding to the company’s growing list of concerns.

Tesla says it will begin using the updated panel design in production this week, while existing Cybertrucks still in inventory will be fixed before delivery. For those already on the road, repairs will be handled free of charge—though drivers might want to avoid tailgating one in the meantime.
