Today and tomorrow, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is in sunny Florida, but not for a vacation. She’s speaking at a PragerU event, pushing back against U.S. tariff threats on Canadian goods and energy. Earlier this month, the U.S. threatened to slap a 25% tariff on Canadian imports and a 10% tariff on energy. In response, Canada hit back with nearly $30 billion in retaliatory tariffs on American goods. Smith argues these tariffs would hurt both countries, risking hundreds of thousands of jobs. She’ll be on stage today with conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, making the case for Alberta’s energy sector and its role in U.S. energy security. The trip has sparked some controversy, but Smith says engaging with U.S. decision makers is critical. She’ll be back on Alberta soil Friday.
