Honouring a Legacy: Boutilier and Stroud Receive National Recognition
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. – Two well-known community leaders in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo are being recognized posthumously with the King Charles III Coronation Medal for their years of dedicated public service.
Former mayor, MLA, and provincial minister Guy Boutilier and former councillor Jane Stroud are among the Albertans receiving the medal, which commemorates King Charles III’s ascension to the throne on May 6, 2023.
Boutilier, who passed away last year after a long battle with cancer, was a champion of local development and sustainability. He served as MLA, minister, and mayor, working to improve lives and economic growth across the province. Stroud, who passed away in August, was widely known for her compassion and advocacy. She worked to enhance the quality of life in rural communities, spearheaded key infrastructure projects, and was an active volunteer dedicated to the betterment of the region.
The medals are being awarded to 30,000 Canadians, including 474 Albertans, in recognition of their contributions to their communities, provinces, and the nation.
“It is a privilege to recognize these individuals who embody the spirit of service which the King Charles III Coronation Medal represents,” said Brian Jean, Alberta’s Minister of Energy and MLA for Fort McMurray–Lac La Biche. “We are better as a community and a province because of their lasting and far-reaching contributions.”
