Fort McMurray literary magazine marks Poetry Month with social media campaign, launch event

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — April is National Poetry Month, and Fort McMurray’s NorthWord Literary Magazine is marking the occasion by sharing a daily poem from its archives on social media. The magazine is encouraging locals to join the celebration by posting original poetry with the hashtag #NorthWordPoetryMonth.

The community is also invited to the launch of NorthWord’s 31st edition, themed “Isolation,” on April 12 at the Fort McMurray International Airport. The event, running from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., will feature readings, artwork displays, and refreshments, with CRUZ-FM’s Steve Reeve serving as host and guest editor. Free parking will be available.

Founded in 2009, NorthWord showcases writing and art from the Wood Buffalo region. The magazine’s organizers say the April 12 launch is open to all, from avid poetry fans to first-time readers.
