Bad Dog! Mischievous Pup Sparks Mobile Home Fire in Gregoire
FORT McMURRAY, AB. — A one-year-old German Shepherd with a taste for trouble—and electrical wiring—is being blamed for a fire that damaged a mobile home in Gregoire on Monday.
Regional Emergency Services says “Levi” chewed through a lithium-ion battery charging hub inside a Grenoble Crescent home, igniting a blaze just after 5 p.m.
The homeowner arrived to find smoke alarms blaring and black smoke billowing inside. When they opened the door, Levi bolted to safety. The dog was shaken but unharmed. Fire crews quickly extinguished the flames, limiting the damage to heavy smoke.
Fire Marshal Nick Brenner says the incident was a close call and serves as a reminder to store lithium batteries securely.
“Keep lithium-ion batteries out of reach of children—and dogs,” he said.
Levi, meanwhile, has been cleared of wrongdoing but may be placed on probation from chewing privileges.
