Liberal Party Names Kaitlyn Staines as Candidate for Fort McMurray–Cold Lake
FORT MCMURRAY, AB – The Liberal Party of Canada has finally named Kaitlyn Staines as its candidate in Fort McMurray–Cold Lake for the upcoming federal general election on April 28, joining the slate of candidates from Canada’s other major political parties.
Although Staines currently resides in Ottawa, the Liberal Party says she has roots in Alberta and earned a degree from MacEwan University in Edmonton.
In a statement, the party described her as “a devoted community leader who has shown their deep passion and determination to make life better for families in Fort McMurray—Cold Lake.” Her LinkedIn biography says she currently handles social media for the Liberal Party out of Ottawa.
The release also says that Staines is ready to work with Mark Carney and the Liberal team “to invest in our middle class, build the strongest economy in the G7, and keep Canada strong.”
Staines will run against incumbent Laila Goodridge of the Conservative Party, You-Ju Choi for the NDP, and Alan Clarke representing the People’s Party of Canada. Brian Deheer is listed as the Green Party Candidate on the party website, though Harvard Media has not been able to validate if that information is current.
Elections Canada will release the final list of confirmed candidates on Wednesday.
