Grande Prairie man arrested in Fort Chipewyan for breaching court order
FORT CHIPEWYAN, Alta. — RCMP in Fort Chipewyan are crediting local residents with helping locate a man prohibited from being in the community, following his arrest late last month.
On March 29, police received a tip about a man in the hamlet who was breaching a court order and had outstanding warrants. The individual, later identified as 39-year-old Mitch Marta of Grande Prairie, had previously been involved in a series of shooting incidents in Fort Chipewyan in 2023, resulting in multiple charges and a judicial order barring him from the area.
With assistance from the Wood Buffalo RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and Police Dog Services, Fort Chipewyan Mounties located and arrested Marta without incident. He is now facing two counts of breach of probation.
Marta was held for a judicial interim release hearing and has since been released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Chipewyan on May 1.
“I’d like to extend a thank you to the residents of Fort Chipewyan for their shared determination in achieving a safer community in partnership with the RCMP,” said Sgt. Warren Davison, the detachment commander.
RCMP are reminding the public that community tips are vital in supporting police investigations. Anyone who observes criminal or suspicious activity is encouraged to report it to local authorities.
