Jewish School Targeted by Gunfire on Yom Kippur

A Jewish girls’ elementary school in Toronto was struck by gunfire early Saturday morning in what many are calling a hate crime. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. at Bais Chaya Mushka Elementary School on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism.

Police were called to the school after a report of glass breaking. When they arrived they found bullet damage to the building, including at least one broken window. The school was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported. Authorities believe the shots were fired from a vehicle, but no suspects have been identified yet.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford condemned the shooting as a “disgusting act of antisemitism,” while Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow urged the suspects to turn themselves in. Toronto Police called the incident “deeply troubling” and are investigating, though they have not yet classified it as a hate crime.

The attack has shaken Canada’s Jewish community, with many calling for justice amid rising concerns over antisemitism.
