Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo Appoints New Executive Director

FORT McMURRAY, Alberta— Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo (BBBSWB) is announcing the appointment of Hanna Fridhed-Campbell as its new Executive Director, succeeding Julie Penney. While Penny resigned from the role in August, she continued to lead BBBSWB while the board searched for her replacement.

Fridhed-Campbell is no stranger to the non-profit sector in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. She has served as Executive Director for Pride YMM for nearly two years prior to joining BBBSWB. She also serves as Artistic Director for Swamp-Rat Experience, a local theatre company.

In a media release, Trevor Butler, Chair of the Board of Directors, said they undertook a diligent and thorough search for the right person to take the helm from Penny. Butler expressed his excitement in bringing Fridhed-Campbell to the organization. “Her passion for mentorship potential and community engagement will be crucial as we continue to expand our programs for the youth in Wood Buffalo,” Butler said.

Fridhed-Campbell expressed her enthusiasm over her new role. “I am excited to join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood Buffalo,” said Fridhed-Campbell. “Together with the knowledgeable and passionate team, I look forward to building brighter futures for the young people in our region, one meaningful connection at a time.”

BBBSWB has served the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Region since 1979. Over their 45 years in the community, they have helped over 6,000 young people with caring mentors and a variety of group programs aimed at empowering children and youth.
