Fort McMurray Airport’s “Pumpkins and Planes” Event Raises Funds for United Way

FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta — The United Way of Wood Buffalo (UWWB) received a lift to its fundraising efforts thanks to the Fort McMurray International Airport and its “Pumpkins and Planes” Halloween event. On Saturday, hundreds of children and adults flew up to the airport terminal for spooky crafts, games, costume competitions, and prizes.

Tickets for the event were just $10, with the proceeds going to UWWB. In total, the festivities raised $3,420 to support UWWB, which works with and supports many local non-profit organizations. The funds will help UWWB reach this year’s $2 million annual fundraising goal.

Denean Robinson, President and CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority expressed pride in supporting the United Way praising the organization’s vital contributions to the community. “The United Way supports 20 vital non-profits in our region, all of which make a significant difference in the lives of our neighbours,” said Robinson. “It’s inspiring to see everyone come together to do their fundraising part.”

Jonathan Davies of the United Way called the event a wonderful example of community spirit. “We are incredibly grateful to YMM and community for their support of this event,” said Davies. “Every dollar raised through the YMM Pumpkins & Planes event directly supports essential programs that empower individuals and strengthen families in our region,”

Both the Fort McMurray International Airport and United Way expressed their gratitude to everyone who came out to participate in the event and offer their support.
