Former RMWB Councillor Honoured as Keyano College Distinguished Alumnus

Former Councillor and Educator Sheldon Germain Named Keyano College Distinguished Alumnus

FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta — Sheldon Germain, a former RMWB councillor and educator, was named Keyano College’s 2024 Distinguished Alumnus. The award was handed to Germain at the Keyano Foundation Gala held last week. The honour comes as recognition of Germain’s significant contributions to education, public service, and college athletics.

Germain, who served as a principal at Good Shepherd School before moving on to the role of Superintendent at Lakeland Catholic School Division near Edmonton, was celebrated for his dedication to both education and the community. Germain graduated from Keyano’s University Studies program in 1992 and spent 25 years in education and 19 years as a councillor for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

Keyano College also highlighted Germain’s contributions to sport, including his role as the head coach of the Keyano Huskies women’s volleyball team and his efforts in establishing the college’s first men’s volleyball team.

Over 900 people attended the gala to celebrate the achievements of the college’s athletic and academic programs, with proceeds supporting the Keyano Foundation.
