RMWB Approves 2025 Municipal Fee Changes, Effective April 1

FORT MCMURRAY, Alta. — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) approved its 2025 Fees and Rates bylaw on Tuesday, November 26. The legislation is introducing several increases to the costs of municipal services, while a select few fees have been reduced or eliminated.

Residents will see increases in key areas such as utilities, transit, and landfill services. Municipal water and garbage collection rates will rise by 10-15%, while transit fares will increase to $2.25 per ride. Rates for planning and development services will also see significant adjustments. Residential development permits and most building and construction permits will rise by 10-100%, though fees for some permits, such as those for gas and propane, are being reduced.

The bylaw outlines the cost for a range of municipal services from ambulance rides, dog licenses, and criminal record checks to graveyard burial permits. A comprehensive list of the 2025 fees and rates is now available on the municipality’s website.
