RMWB Gears Up for Winter Fun with Outdoor Activities and Skating Rinks

FORT MCMURRAY – The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is inviting residents to embrace the winter season with a variety of outdoor activities. By December 20, just in time for the start of Christmas Break, all municipal outdoor rinks are expected to be open to the public. Equipped with nets for pick-up shinny, the rinks are open to everyone, with no scheduled hockey games, offering a perfect setting for this Canadian winter tradition.

For those looking for more of a leisurely skate, Lion’s Park is already open, featuring a scenic ice trail illuminated by vibrant holiday lights. Towards the end of December, Borealis Park will also welcome skaters, with a festive Candy Cane Lane theme set up along the pond for families to enjoy.

Outdoor enthusiasts can also explore the freshly groomed Birchwood Trails, perfect for cross-country skiing and winter walks. Meanwhile, the Timberlea sliding hill is ready for tobogganing, with lights on daily from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., allowing residents to enjoy the fun even after our early sunset.
