ASIRT Investigating Fatal RCMP-Involved Shooting in Cold Lake
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating after the death of a male following an RCMP-involved shooting in Cold Lake.
On Saturday evening, RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting an attempted stabbing at a transit stop in the city, located about 250 kilometres south-southeast of Fort McMurray. Upon arrival, two officers encountered a male suspect armed with an edged weapon.
Officers employed various intervention methods to bring the suspect into custody, including the use of a firearm. The man sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital, where he later died.
As required by provincial legislation, Alberta’s Director of Law Enforcement was immediately notified, prompting the deployment of ASIRT to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
