RMWB Activates Winter Maintenance Zones 1 and 2 for Snow Removal
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) has activated Winter Maintenance Zones (WMZ) 1 and 2 for scheduled snow removal operations from January 13 to 17. Residents in these zones are reminded to move their vehicles off the street during their subzone’s designated maintenance day to facilitate snow clearing.
Each residential street in Fort McMurray has an assigned subzone and a specific weekday for maintenance. The subzone can be found on posted street signs, by visiting the RMWB website, or by contacting Pulse at 780-743-7000. On-street parking restrictions are in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. during an active subzone’s scheduled maintenance day.
Crews are also clearing snow from alleys across the municipality. Priority is being given to alleys used for garbage and recycling collection. Residents are asked to ensure personal items, such as bins, vehicles, and basketball nets, are stored on private property to avoid obstructing equipment.
Subzones 3 and 4 are currently relaxed, with no on-street parking restrictions in place. These zones are expected to activate for maintenance during the week of January 20 to 24.
Temporary no-parking signs will also be placed 24 hours in advance on streets outside the WMZ program where snow removal is scheduled. Once these signs are posted, vehicles must be removed until the signage is taken down.
